About

The Southern New Jersey Medication for Addiction Treatment Center of Excellence (SNJMATCOE) works to ensure low barrier access for patients struggling with substance use disorders, facilitate research and innovation in the field of addiction medicine, and support and mentor health care clinicians to provide evidence-based care to people with use disorders across the state.
Established by Governor Phil Murphy in 2019, the SNJMATCOE is a collaborative effort between Cooper University Health Care and the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine and is the southern arm of New Jersey’s MAT Centers for Excellence program. Our partner program, the Northern New Jersey MATCOE, is administered by Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Newark’s University Hospital. Rachel Haroz, MD, and James Bailey, DO, serve as SNJMATCOE’s principal investigators.
The SNJMATCOE offers education, mentoring, collaboration and networking across the nine southern counties of the state: Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Ocean and Salem.
SNJMATCOE’s vision is to end the stigma of addiction and to ensure that all people with substance use disorders have access to high quality care so they may live full and satisfied lives.

About Cooper University Health Care Center for Healing

Cooper University Health Care, with its MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper and affiliation with Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, is a leading academic health system headquartered in Camden, New Jersey.
Cooper’s Center for Healing provides innovative, compassionate care for patients with substance use disorders (SUD), pain, trauma, and psychiatric disorders. The center includes an interdisciplinary team of medical specialists trained in addiction medicine, toxicology, emergency medicine (EM), emergency medical services (EMS), internal medicine, family medicine, obstetrics, and psychiatry.
These healthcare providers meet patients where they are. This includes services at one of our five outpatient clinics, consulting and treating patients hospitalized within Cooper University Hospital, a low-barrier walk-in clinic, in the emergency room, or in the community through our mobile health clinic or collaborative services at the sites of local partners, such as AHEC Syringe Exchange, Pinnacle OTP, and regional skilled nursing facilities like Majestic.
Individual and group visits are available and administered by physicians, advanced practice providers, behavioral health clinicians, nurses, and navigator specialists who offer wraparound services. These care teams utilize a biopsychosocial model, addressing not only a person’s medical and physical needs but also the psychological, social, and economic factors impacting long-term recovery.
The Center for Healing treats over 3,000 patients each year, offering specialized care for those with unique needs, such as older patients, people who are pregnant or parenting, formerly incarcerated individuals, people with dual diagnoses, chronic pain, etc.
